I find it fascinating how different we all are. How there are people who will really say, words mean nothing to them. Although I'd argue that if they were on the receiving end of hurtful words or really beautiful words, it would have an impact even if they say it doesn't. I just can't fathom it. I love you and your words my friend. And I love this reflection. It's so so true. Words MATTER. A huge great big deal.

I have a few considerations, I’m still in the process of considering. One is that we all have different sensitivities and pressure points, and different tolerances for these sensitivities and pressure points. If ones sensitivities are not affected by language, then maybe it is true that words have no meaning or very little meaning. I am a highly sensitive person, it’s what enables me to be empathic. Not everyone is highly sensitive or empathic. This is evidenced by what we are currently witnessing happening in our internal and external worlds.

That’s a good point—some people really don’t take words at any value. Like that “sticks and stones” saying? Some people apply that to everything and take words as an empty vessel until some action can fill them with meaning!

I used to be careless with my words. I didn't realize they were an extension of me, an extension of my power. I am happy, of course no more than you are, that you and Mr. Ex are no longer together. Your words, and you, deserve to be held and received by those who can handle their potency. Thank you for the read.

Rachel, this is poetry. Thank you, thank you. Even though the journey through this relationship was hard, devastating even, I know now it was one that allowed me to re-see who I am, and reclaim who I’ve chosen to be.

Amen to all of that. It reminds me of the saying God brings the storm to clear our path. It sucks going through it but afterward it’s full steam ahead. Thank you again.

I had this discussion with a friend who values words and the energy and weight they carry. This piece really resonated with me; especially the line “If you swallowed your words, would they choke you?”. There have been times when I have thought "Am I being overly sensitive when it comes to how I communicate and how I am communicated with?" And then I will have an interaction that shows me that treating words with respect and consideration is incredibly important; as it will allow for interaction that is more productive. Thank you for sharing all that you do!

Thank you so much for reading Kanika. I often ask myself the same question, “Am I being overly sensitive?”. I ask it a little less now…

Words are power! That’s how people communicate thoughts, influence others, and create art! Describing them as worth “nothing” is far from accurate! You’ve written an astute post here!

Yes! Yes, words are so much a part of who and how we are and what and how this world is. Thank you Bethel for taking the time to read.

Powerful reflection 👏🏽

Learning how to find words for my feelings freed me.

Their power is immense and life changing to say the least.

Also, this line blew me away 😮‍💨

“If you swallowed your words, would they choke you?”

Whewwwww! Girl! You and your way with words!!! You’ve explained what I was never able to put into words! Words are so powerful. They’ve always carried so much weight to me, and because people experience the power of words differently I’ve had to learn better ways to handle friendships/ relationships.

Words can convey so much that someone could be speaking to me and the words they choose consciously or subconsciously tells me enough of a story. Thank you for your reflections! <3

Even as a writer, I struggle to find the words to describe certain experiences or periods of my life. But, when I am able to find, speak, write the words OR read, or hear words from someone else, I feel lighter, and usually then too can release the pain or hurt, disappoint, anger etc. from the experience. And you’re right, the words we speak, whether we believe they have power or not, always tell a story.
